Consonant Blends and Digraphs is a word-building program that helps students become more consistent in their ability to read, write, and spell words that contain a combination of consonant blends within single-syllable words. Students build accuracy and fluency as they engage in a variety of on-screen and away-from-the-computer activities that help them recognize, identify, and use these important sounds.Throughout the program, students hear and see consonant blends (2 letters creating 2 sounds: bl- or br-) and digraphs (2 letters creating 1 sound: -sh, or -ch). Students learn to connect the consonant sounds to their corresponding letter patterns as they sort pictures by consonant sound and build one-syllable words using consonant sounds and digraphs. Students apply their knowledge composing original tongue twisters and fun "Who Am I?" riddles that can be saved in personalized journals. These pages can be printed for classroom assessment or to make illustrated class books. Understanding the relationship between letters and their sounds is an essential part of reading success. This engaging program provides students with opportunities to work meaningfully with words with complex consonant patterns.
